THE PINK PALACE
A journey concealed in lace ends in light.
(2021 - ongoing)
Our family home nicknamed ‘The Pink Palace’ is located in a small suburban town in South East Queensland, Australia. It is a place where laughter, joy, religion, and creativity intersected. It continues to be a strange but beautiful world that my mother has populated with a collection of things she has either crafted, bought, or been gifted.
Living in this space as a sensitive child and teenager I felt smothered by the lace and potpourri. Revisiting it as an adult I have lovingly documented my mother’s space. The series of still life’s create a portrait of a matriarch who I loved, feared and obeyed.
My mother's ability to move outside of her Christian beliefs to fully accept me as openly queer has become one of my greatest revelations.'The Pink Palace’, is now enjoyed as a place of safety and calm where my mother continues to express her individual spirituality while at the same time giving me the opportunity to celebrate my own.
